The Eden Project: Process
Recreate creation in 9 seconds; that was the project brief for this promotional trailer for The Eden Project.
Through the entire animation, my goal was to find a concise way to capture the wildness and beauty of the Holy Spirit described in Genesis - to show creation as a reaction to its movement, expanding outward like the waves of its wake.
We ended up going with a billowing wave trail look on top of a text background, creation by both the Word and Spirit of God, forming light, water, earth and man.

Another goal of the animation was seamless transitions between scenes: from the formlessness of space, to land being pulled up from water, to the Spirit filling into the shape of hands as it gathers dirt to form man.
And finally, transitioning out of this animated world to live action footage. I created boards based on the script to give the film crew visual direction for scenes before and after the animated segment.
Getting to do frame by frame animation for this project was a lot of fun, both for connecting and final assets. Below are experiments for the interaction of the hands and spirit, and testing out stylized color shapes to build up the figure and face of a man.
